There are some long faces in my part of Ontario.
Our area does not experience much crime, let alone serious offences.
But yesterday morning, not far from here and in an area I am very familiar with, there was a brutal, senseless murder.
A young man, rumoured to be quite high on drugs, broke into the home of strangers who were out. When the couple returned, he attacked with a knife, multiple times, killing the husband and seriously wounding the wife. The attacker then fled to the next house where a 17 yr old girl answered the door and was knifed. She is also in critical condition with multiple stab wounds. Next he fled to another home where apparently a barking dog made him think twice about affronting the gentleman who answered the door. In the midst of all this, a 911 call was placed. The bloodied 25 yr old male made his way to a school which had already moved into lock down mode. And he continued to flee. As police moved people off the streets, social media continued to inform us of the activity.
Quickly, with the help of canine units and helicopters, he was caught. But he irrevocably changed lives.
I am familiar with the wife, the sister of a dear friend. She has lost her life mate, a man who defended her to the end. The whole community is in shock.
A sudden senseless crime. No motivation. No familiarity with the victims. Yes, right here in Quietville.
Our hearts go out to all involved. We cannot imagine your grief, your anger, the emotional roller coaster ride you must be on. You are in our prayers. We share your grief.
Spent a lot of my younger years as an army brat in Petawawa. Followed this story yesterday. Very, very sad. My heart goes out to the victims & their families. Unfortunately our justice system will most likely give him a slap on the wrist. His actions will most likely get blamed on drugs. People need to be held accountable for their actions period. No excuses.
